At the moment Nominatim gives a very long list of all the segments of a road as a result for a simple search for a street. This makes still the first results redundant and does not give an helpful overview.
The same happens with searches for motorways which are organised in relations. If you do a search with nominatim for "a 281", it will give you all the pieces tagged as "ref=A 281".
I would assume a solution which searches for relations which match the searched terms. It should plot a list of all the matching relations (marking just the streets) and all the streets which were not included in the resulting relations.
Supported relations should be {type=route, route=road}, type=associatedStreet, type=street. Supported tags for the road segments should be the common highway=* tags.
