This request originally started on the help side. The place names in Myanmar/Burmese Unicode for the country of Myanmar in OpenStreetMap seem to have been typed correctly but the font being used for the OpenStreetMap is rendering them incorrectly.

Here is an example of what it should be for the capital of the country, Naypyidaw.

This is almost certainly blocked on mapnik merging the harfbuzz work. Status on that seems to be being tracked at mapnik/mapnik#1428.

Actually https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/issues?milestone=20&state=open might be a better link.

The Mapnik component is for openstreetmap.xml, the old XML-based stylesheet, not openstreetmap-carto, which is currently used for the default layer on openstreetmap.org.

Openstreetmap-carto has an issue tracker at https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues.

This particular issue is being tracked at gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto#392, but the real work on this is upstream in Mapnik.
