Web browsers restrict the number of simultaneous connections to a given domain. This is stopping GPX support in iD (openstreetmap/iD#1789 (comment)) as implementing a GPX call significantly slows down the loading of map data.
Adding another cname pointing to the API would allow GPX requests to be issued alongside map requests.
I'd suggest either gpx.openstreetmap.org, or just going a.api.openstreetmap.org, b.api.openstreetmap.org and c.api.openstreetmap.org like is done for tile.openstreetmap.org
