#5069 closed defect (wontfix)

Main interface lacks zoom slider bar

Description

Whereas other mapping sites feature a zoom slider bar, osm.org only has + and -, so the user needs several more actions (clicks) to get his desired zoom. (Yes he can also use his mouse wheel but that is besides the point.)

Removing the zoom bar was a deliberate design decision and I don't believe there are any plans to revisit it.

There are many other ways of zooming - shift-drag, mouse wheel, single click on +/-, shift click on +/- (zooms by three levels).

Tom, it would be nice if could you could provide a link to the relevant design decision discussion.

"shift click" and "shift-drag" - you made me laughing... And how should ANYONE know this? ;-) Update: oh, right, in the inofficial documentation the shift drag (zoom-in box) was already mentioned. I have added the shift click now.

Still, those are not replacing the zoom slider which also serves as a easily recognizable zoom-level indicator.
