[Submitted to the original trac issue database at 8.40am, Sunday, 4th May 2014]

Search result for places which has short_name set using accept-language which is missing an explicit translation will give you the short_name instead of name.

Example:
New York City displayed with accept-language=sv will have NYC as first component of display_name and as city in address details. I expect it to be New York City.

http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search.php?q=new%20york%20city&accept-language=sv&addressdetails=1&format=json

short_name is no longer the preferred tag.
