fuzzy search ie/ei #5241
Comments
Author: lonvia Fuzzy search will be addressed by the photon frontend (photon.komoot.de), the architecture of Nominatim itself is not suitable for it. Misusing short_name for propagating fuzzy names is clearly bad practice and not what the tag is meant for. Incidentally, the misspelled version will now be shown in the search results. |

So, how to get this behavioral implemented in osm.org-search then? |
Author: lonvia The long-term goal is to get photon and it's search-as-you-type feature on the front page search box. It's not quite there yet as some essential features like minutely updates are still missing but it'll get there. |
Author: nickma Sorry, last two question: Replying to [comment:3 lonvia]:
Is that realistic due to a timespan of a year? |
Author: lonvia I cannot give any estimates when this will happen. The few developers we have are all only working part time on the project. Unfortunately, there is no quick-fix for this in Nominatim itself either. It is simply not designed for fuzzy search. |
Author: nickma Ok, thank you! |

Hi,
it would be an enhancement if nominatim would fuzzy search for "ie"<->"ei", if someone looks it up with a typo.
Now its the case that people are starting to propagate fuzzy names in the database like in the following case, where someone entered a fuzzy name as "Key:short_name":
http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/8029808 - IndustrIEstrae, Vienna
Is that an appropriate way to go?
Best, Nick
