TCP-Error from Geocoding-Request

Reported by: cibeezie Owned by: geocoding@…
Priority: blocker Milestone:
Component: nominatim Version:

Description

Hello.

We're getting a [RST, SCK] on TCP-Layer when sending a geocoding-request to th nominatim-server. Are we blocked from the server in some way? If yes, shouldn't this end in an HTTP-error instead on TCP-layer? Our IP is 62.180.43.10.

Thanks in advantage

Yes you are being blocked for using the API in violation of the usage policy:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Nominatim_usage_policy

You will have been given HTTP 429 errors for a while, but if you persist and we give you more than 100 of those in a 10 minute period then we convert that to an IP block as even issuing HTTP errors incurs a load on the servers.

It looks like you were actually banned some time ago but the automatic lifting of the ban after a few hours failed, so I have lifted it manually for now.

Thank you very much. We had a bug on our system, which led to this count of requests . We will fix it to keep the poliy conditions.

Best regards
