Currently at least Hebrew text is not correctly rendered in slippy map (Mapnik layer).
Letters are in wrong order, left-to-right, not right-to-left.

Yes, and you're only about the 50th person to tell us. It is being actively discussed on the mailing list at the moment and Artem is working on adding support for shaping and RTL rendering to mapnik, as well as support for alternative fonts so we can cover a wider range of character sets.

This should be fixed when you update mapnik to a version with the new ICU support...

The new Mapnik code with ICU support is now being used to render the main slippy map and apears to render R-to-L text properly now.
