Pressing the button for converting gpx trace to ways before the gpx is fully loaded seems to just make the buttons disappear (entering edit mode) without doing anything.

The button could for example be grey and inactive and not respond in any way before the gpx is fully loaded.

0.8a now offers a 'Please wait' dialogue and won't let you select anything else while the track is being processed.
