It would be nice if there was a function (with shortcut) which toggled the transparency of areas on and off. When using background images, it sometimes is hard to see through e.g. a wood area. The existing opacity setting works on everything drawn on that layer, while I would leave ways unchanged. Another option (maybe overkill though) would be a shortcut to cycle through a set of opacities for areas, e.g.
