I like to edit in potlatch, but, because there is no "split way" feature, I find myself frequently having to switch to JOSM for the sole purpose of splitting ways at bridges:
In potlatch, position nodes at the ends of bridges.
Record the IDs of the aforementioned nodes.
Click the "view" tab to go back to the slippy map and click "permalink" (since there is no way (that I can find) to get a permalink in potlatch).
Open JOSM and use the aforementioned permalink to download the area where the bridge is.
Find the nodes, split the way at them, and upload the changes.
Back in the browser, open potlatch again, and wait for it to download the data again (including the way that is now split at the bridge).
Add the appropriate "bridge" and "layer" tags.
Given this process, creating bridges becomes quite tedious especially on motorways, where there are lots of bridges. The ability to split ways in potlatch would greatly simplify the creation of bridges.
