if i search for "Hinton Road", i get for example: "Street Hinton Rd, about 3km north of India (about 50km north of Gulfport)"; it would be great to adapt to the SI and to separate the numbers and symbols with spaces ("50 km" and not "50km"). (Just in case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_Units is a good address to start reading, if one wants to know more - links to the BIPM can be found there too);

i don't know exactly where to put this wish, so feel free to move it around - but it would be great to see this little enhancement in openstreetmap :-) (thanks for this great project by the way)

Frankly I'm astonished that SI specifies such a detail. I can't see any benefit to it and there is a possible downside in that it may allow the line to be broken such that value and unit are on separate lines.

So, in line with OSMs normal policy of not doing standards "for the sake of it" there seems to be little reason to add a space.

well, the SI only specifies something which is usual for typography (before the times of MS-Word etc.). The space is for better readability, just take a look in books which are older than the word processor computer applications - it's not my illusion but a well known rule of typography.

Well and about the "downside" you mentioned:

Without the space we have always a wrong typography, with the space only when the line is broken in the wrong place (which easily could be handled with a non breakable space). I just discovered this old bug report by me with a search ... please look to #2257 (for namefinder), #2495 (for nomination).
