Would it be possible, that there is a warning when a user is about to upload his first changsets, that his changes will be changes in the OSM main database?
In Germany we have two cases [1][2] in the last week, where a new user deletes many ways and nodes, because they want a cleaner map. Both didn't realize that their edits are stored in the main database.

See https://trac.openstreetmap.org/ticket/3362#comment:5 . It's a problem that needs addressing but I would rather this were handled by better explanatory text, perhaps context-sensitive if you're deleting lots, than a modal dialogue that is displayed to absolutely everyone on first upload.
