Add the VisualEditor extension to the OSM wiki #4920
Comments
Author: openstreetmap[at]firefishy.com We are running MW 1.21. Once MW 1.22 is out we can consider. |
Author: openstreetmap[at]firefishy.com Out = released and stable. |
Author: RobJN Media Wiki 1.22 is now out (released and stable). It would be great if we could make the update and add the VisualEditor extension soon - perhaps during the London hack event in March :-) |
Author: openstreetmap[at]firefishy.com "Use at your own risk; it's not ready for production deployment except for experts! Patches welcome." ... "Stable release is planned for 2014." Once stable I'll install. -- |
Author: RobJN Its a bit of an odd one as at the bottom of the same page it also says "This extension is being used on one or more Wikimedia projects. This probably means that the extension is stable". On the pages discussion page a topic (Third party usage of VE for MW 1.23.x) suggests that "stable" may occur when 1.23 LTS is out (scheduled for May). |
Author: RobJN This has now been installed in the wiki so can now be closed. Not sure how to do that. |

Wikimedia Commons has just rolled out the new, easy to use editor to EN pages of Wikipedia. This new editor (know as Visualeditor) is really simple to use [1] and will lower the entry to editing the wiki.
Following wikipedia's lead we should prepare to roll this out on our wiki (Wikipedia intends to complete their roll out within 1 month!). It installs as an extension [2] however currently requires a more up to date version of Mediawiki.
